I live in the Annex in downtown Toronto with the companion animals my daughter and I have adopted over the years. I am a keen walker of urban public spaces and an avid hiker and cyclist. I have had a lifelong interest in social equality and human dignity. I am proud of my role on the Steering Committee of Walk Toronto, and as a co-founder of Friends and Families for Safe Streets. All of my interests are centred on ways to connect people, which has also influenced my involvement as an officiant.
I'm an experienced public speaker, flexible and sensitive to the needs of others. It would be my sincere pleasure to be part of one of the great memories of your life and perform any style of ceremony to reflect the cultures or identities you wish to highlight.
As a humanist, I feel a sense of joy in helping you create a ceremony that reflects who you are.
I began this work with the intention of doing just one wedding - for the daughter of a close friend. My friend had died some years before, and I count her daughter as a close friend, too. The long process of becoming licensed was a labour of love, and I really didn't see much beyond the desire to create the best wedding possible in memory and in celebration of my deep friendships. To bring together the strands of this interfaith union to express the joy and the complexities in a respectful manner was my goal. And the wedding was so beautiful: we were able to have Leah there in spirit through the tears and the laughter. I loved it. Loved being asked to officiate by Naomi and Sean. Loved the honesty it took to create the ceremony. And, to my surprise, someone else called me to officiate their wedding! I was hooked.
